July Safety Snippet

Dear team members,

As we are enjoying the summer months, many of us are spending more time near and in the water. Whether you’re at the beach, by the pool, or on a lake, here are some important water safety tips to keep in mind:

  1. Learn to Swim: Ensure everyone in your family knows how to swim well. Enroll in swim lessons if necessary.
  2. Never Swim Alone: Always swim with a buddy, even if you are an experienced swimmer. It’s safer and more fun!
  3. Supervise Children Closely: Never leave children unattended near water. Designate a responsible adult to keep a constant watch.
  4. Use Life Jackets: Ensure young children and inexperienced swimmers wear U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets around water.
  5. Follow Pool Rules: Obey posted rules and warnings at pools and water parks. They are there for your safety.
  6. Be Cautious with Alcohol: Avoid drinking alcohol before or during swimming, boating, or supervising children.
  7. Know How to Respond to Emergencies: Knowing CPR and basic first aid is a great tool. Keep a phone nearby in case of emergency.
  8. Check Water Conditions: Pay attention to weather and water conditions. Avoid swimming in rough surf, strong currents, or bad weather.
  9. Stay Hydrated and Use Sunscreen: Protect yourself from the sun with broad-spectrum sunscreen and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
  10. Respect Wildlife and Environment: Avoid disturbing wildlife and protect natural habitats. Dispose of trash properly.
